The Power of Appreciation: Why Small Gestures Matter
This is my most favourite topic because I like to be appreciated or should I say, I love to be appreciated and so do all of us! But let’s reflect: when was the last time you appreciated someone else?
Think about the last 5 days. Have you shown appreciation to anyone? If yes, how did they react? Did you feel a positive energy from them? If yes, keep going it’s vital in all relationships, especially between parents and children.
If your answer is “No”, then it’s time to start. Trust me, you’ll feel uplifted when you appreciate someone, and that feeling reinforces positivity in your own life.
Start Small, Start Now
Even small compliment about someone’s clothing, their cooking, their efforts, or improvements can brighten their day. You can begin with yourself. After all, charity begins at home!
When you appreciate someone, it encourages them to keep doing those things, and even to do them better. We often get lost in routine and rising expectations, losing sight of the value others bring into our lives.
Look Around and Appreciate
Who in your life makes you feel special or valued? Recognize them. A kind word or gesture of appreciation can make their efforts feel seen and acknowledged.
Virtual vs. Real Appreciation
We often give out 10+ likes daily on social media to people we may never have met. But have you given that kind of recognition to someone close to you someone who ensures your wellbeing or gives you their time?
Let’s flip the script. Give one real-world “like” to someone around you. And yes, don’t forget to like this blog, too!
Appreciation in Teaching
As a teacher, one of our most effective classroom strategies is to appreciate good behaviour or positive learning attitudes. This reinforcement motivates learners and influences others to follow the same path.
I’ve seen how a little appreciation leads to real change in students. Try it you may see transformation in those around you, too.
Appreciating Children
Of all the people who need appreciation, children rank highest. A parent’s encouragement means everything to them. Once a parent, always a parent and appreciation should always be part of that role.
